A Space for Alternatives

Co-creating pathways for alternative learning, earning, and living through regeneration and spirituality

Our Purpose

As individuals we constantly find ourselves at the crossroads trying to decide which path to choose, how to live, whom to love, why pursue a task, what goals to set. The deeper we are in touch with our emotions, thoughts, beliefs, values, and priorities, the better we are equipped to navigate these crossroads.

The phrase Inner Companion highlights the power and the wisdom we carry within each one of us to navigate the complexities of life. We believe that if we find our inner companion, we will be able to live intentionally, love unconditionally, and feel deeply.

Recenter — A Space for Alternatives

In Tiruvannamalai, the spiritual heart of South India, we have built Recenter — a space that can be used by everyone irrespective of their age, educational background, and economic status; a space where learning and living coexist; a space rooted in regeneration and spirituality.

Our work is anchored on two pillars: Regeneration and Spirituality. Our goal is to strike a balance between nurturing the world within us and the one around us.

Our Core Philosophy in Essays

Learning, Life, and the Question of Responsibility

We live in a time of extraordinary learning. Never before have so many people spent so many years in formal education. Never before has information been so accessible, so searchable, so abundant. And yet, alongside this expansion of learning, we find ourselves facing deepening crises—ecological collapse, social fragmentation, moral and spiritual confusion, and a pervasive sense of disconnection from one another and from the living world.

This raises a quiet but unsettling question: If learning was meant to help us live well, why does life feel increasingly unwell?

The Team

Smt. Jayashree Vyasarajan Arasu

Ed.D. (Educational Leadership), Plymouth State University Director @Inner Companion Foundation | Community builder @Recenter Intentional Community

Of the many roles life has shown me to play, right now I focus on being an unschooling parent, community builder, and a social enterprise owner.

My work is centered around building a community of individuals and families who pursue alternative means of learning, earning, and living. I enjoy creating new recipes, dancing, creating mandalas, hosting circles for and with women, and learning from my children the purpose of life.

Shri. Arasu Gunasekaran

M.S. (Organizational Leadership) Founder Chef @Cafe Recenter | Director @Inner Companion Foundation

My love for food, and goal to lead a healthy lifestyle led me to creating a one-of-a-kind eatery where families would feel comfortable and excited to eat in. I run Cafe Recenter, a home-style Cafe in Tiruvannamalai, which aims to offer diverse, nutritious, vegetarian food for all members in the family.

I value freedom, family, inclusivity, and fun. I enjoy playing badminton, hiking, and befriending people from other cultures.
